Vedic Mantra - “So Hum”

Dear one,

When I first began meditating, my mind was restless, my heart searching for peace, and then, almost by grace, my spiritual teacher appeared.
So Hum.

At first, I didn’t understand it. I would just sit, breathing softly, repeating it to myself — So as I inhaled, Hum as I exhaled — and something inside me would begin to settle.
Later, I learned its meaning: in Sanskrit, “So Hum” translates to “I Am”
Two words that carry the power of remembrance — a bridge between the individual self and the divine presence that lives in everything.

With each breath, I could feel my heart returning to stillness.
The mantra whispered, You are not separate. You are not lost. You are part of the whole.
And in that knowing, peace would come.

This is the first Vedic mantra I ever practiced — and it remains the foundation of my meditation. It reminds me that I am not this story, not the fear, not the passing storm.
I Am.

So Hum invites me to breathe with awareness, to return to presence, to rest in the quiet truth of being.

This reflection marks the beginning of a new series I’ll be sharing with you — introducing Vedic mantras and the timeless wisdom they carry, alongside the themes of love, resilience, and reinvention that have guided my life’s journey.

Take a moment now, if you wish:
Close your eyes.
Inhale, So.
Exhale, Hum.
I Am
I am love.
I am light.

With love and gratitude,
Alexandra 🤍
